García, Iker, Franchek Drobnic, Casimiro Javierre, Victoria Pons, and Ginés Viscor. Severe hypoxic exercise does not impair lung diffusion in elite swimmers. High Alt Med Biol. 22:90–95, 2021. Background: Exercise performed at high altitude may cause a subclinical pulmonary interstitial edema that can worsen gas exchange function. This study aimed to evaluate whether there are changes alveolar–capillary after during short-term exposure hypobaric hypoxia Materials Methods: Seven swimmers (age: 20.4 ± 1.4 years, height: 1.78 10.8 m, body mass: 69.7 11.1 kg) participated the study. Diffusing capacity of lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO), transfer coefficient monoxide, pulse oximeter oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate (HR) were measured sea level rest (SL-R), (4,000 m), both (HA-R) end moderate interval (HA-E). Results: The combined did change DLCO from SL-R HA-R, or HA-E (43.8 9.8 41.3 10.5 42.4 8.6 ml minutes−1 mmHg−1, p = 0.391). As expected, showed large decrease SpO2 (72 5; < 0.001) increase HR (139 9 beats minutes−1; 0.003) HA-E. Conclusions: An acute high-altitude with submaximal alveolar-capillary

Hypohydration does not impair skeletal muscle glycogen resynthesis after exercise.
The purpose of this investigation was to examine the effects of moderate hypohydration (HY) on skeletal muscle glycogen resynthesis after exhaustive exercise. On two occasions, eight males completed 2 h of intermittent cycle ergometer exercise (4 bouts of 17 min at 60% and 3 min at 80% of maximal O2 consumption/10 min rest) to reduce muscle glycogen concentrations (control values 711 +/- 41 mum...
متن کاملEffect of Twelve-Week hypoxic interval training on lung volumes and records of elite swimmers in 50 and 100 meters breaststroke
Introduction: Holding the breath during exercise causes hypoxia. This study set out to investigate the effect of the 12-week hypoxic interval training on lung volume and records of elite swimmers in 50 and 100 meters breaststroke. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 22 male swimmers were randomly divided into the hypoxic interval training group (n: 13; age: 16.61±1.39 years; he...
متن کاملShoulder Pain in Elite Swimmers
Much research has investigated shoulder pain which inhibits the performance of elite swimmers. An ever increasing understanding of the epidemiology and aetiology of what has been termed 'swimmer's shoulder' has enabled better treatment, rehabilitation and prevention programs to be implemented. This paper reviews the current research relevant to 'swimmer's shoulder' and the methods of treatment ...
متن کاملThe blood antioxidant defence capacity during intermittent hypoxic training in elite swimmers
The main objective of this study was to examine the chronic effect of simulated intermittent normobaric hypoxia on blood antioxidant defence capacity in swimmers. The study included 14 male and 14 female competitive swimmers performing part of land training under simulated intermittent normobaric hypoxia (O2 = 15.5%) or in normoxia. Land interval training took place twice per week, with a total...
متن کاملQuercetin Supplementation Does Not Attenuate Exercise Performance and Body Composition in Young Female Swimmers
BACKGROUND Quercetin is a health-enhancing antioxidant bioflavonoid (1-3). This flavonoid occurs in variety of natural fruits and vegetables such as apple, cranberry, onion, broccoli, and teas. Many studies have shown that quercetin has possible positive effects on exercise performance. The aim of this study is the evaluation of effects of quercetin supplementation on VO2max and exercise perfor...
